Reasons Behind a Clogged Toilet
A clogged toilet can really ruin your day. Clogged toilets are gross and nobody enjoys dealing with a clogged toilet. Sometimes a clogged toilet will even require a plumber.
Paper related clogged toilets
One of the easiest way to clog your toilet is to simply use to much toilet paper. Toilet paper is great, but if you use too much of it, then your toilet paper will clog the toilet. This clog is typically fixed by using a plunger.
Paper towels can also cause a clog. Paper towels are not meant to be flushed and are hazardous to your plumbing system. You may be able to use a plunger to fix this problem, but you should avoid flushing paper towels if at all possible. Wet Ones and baby wipes are also occasionally flushed. Unless it says it can be flushed on the package, it cannot be flushed and it may cause a clog. Avoid flushing baby wipes if at all possible.
Feminine care products like tampons and pads are designed to absorb fluid and can expand with that absorption. Unfortunately, these products are not meant to break down when wet. Because the products will not break down in water, they are extremely likely to cause a clog.
If you have children, then you probably already know that children can accidentally cause damage to the house. One way they can do this is by accidentally flushing toys down the toilet. These toys obviously will not breakdown in water and can clog your toilet. You probably will have to snake your drain to get a toy out.
Dental floss and cotton balls can clog your drain as well. Many people believe that they can use their toilet as a bathroom trash can, but over time this small trash can build up in your system and clog your drains.
Shampoo caps also can clog the toilet. These sometimes fall into the toilet drain and can get caught in the pipes clogging the drain.
Major plumbing problems
One major problem that can cause a clogged toilet is a full septic system. If your system is full it will need to be drained before you can flush the toilet. Another problem is a roots in the pipes.
If tree roots are in your pipes your toilet could clog and you will need to call a plumber. You could also have a broken pipe in your system. This could prevent water from flowing through your system and clog your toilet. This problem will require a plumber.
