The CEC (California Energy Commissions) has mandated to end the distribution of high emission water heaters. This new law/code is part of the CEC Title 24, which is intended to lower California’s pollution rate. This mandate has been in affect since the beginning of 2010, since then every water heater fabricator has only produced Low NOx(Nitrogen Oxide) water heaters. These low NOx water heaters come in every size and are just as or more efficient than the old conventional water heaters. The major change in these water heater is the amount in emission distributed per Joule. Most low NOx water heater have a 10 nanogram distribution per Joule, that is about a 75% reduction from previous water heaters. This is a great step forward in the fight against global warming.
